About Me

Karla Ruiz, LDA, is the owner of Casita de Justicia. She has been a legal secretary and paralegal in private law firms throughout California for the past 13 years. She graduated from UC Riverside, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and an Associate’s Degree from Cabrillo Community College, in Santa Cruz County. While attending UC Riverside, Ms. Ruiz collaborated with three of her professors conducting research in relation to world trade and economics, how women are perceived in politics, and the public’s views of women in politics. The crime levels and safety of Sanctuary Cities with large numbers of undocumented immigrants. During her last year, she was offered an internship with the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) in Washington D.C. She assisted in executing extensive background research on international political human rights violations for cases to be presented in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for prosecution.  

 

In community college, she volunteered for the Santa Cruz  Voter Registration Drive, chartered the Latino Democratic Club of Santa Cruz County, Center for Student Justice, and managed two City Council Campaigns.  In 2010 she interned for Congressman Sam Farr, where she discovered her passion for law. With this new discovery, she went to work for an immigration and criminal defense law firm. Throughout her time there, she assisted in the firm’s first Defense of Marriage case (DOMA). Karla believes that everyone should have access to affordable legal assistance.

 

After being away from the central coast for over 10 years, Karla moved back and worked for Lumina Alliance as the Manager/ Paralegal for their legal department. She quickly realized the need for affordable legal assistance. Especially for those who aren’t native to this country.

 

In May of 2022, Ms. Ruiz established her business, Casita de Justicia, providing affordable legal document services. She prides herself in providing high-level of confidentiality and professionalism. She is a great non-attorney alternative.
